ABOUT MEScientist at HeartHello! My name is Mr. Boeckmann and I have the pleasure of being your 8th Grade Science teacher. This year we are going to have a lot of fun learning about physical science (read more on that below). But first a little about me. I grew up moving up and down the Mid-Atlantic from North Carolina up to Pennsylvania and the states in between. I graduated from high school across the mountain in Orange, Virginia. After high school I went to JMU and majored in Chemistry (my love of which came from my 8th grade physical science class!). Now I find myself teaching what I love at Kate Collins Middle School. I currently live in Staunton, Virginia, love watching sports, reading, and learning new things.

Physical ScienceWhen we say physical science we mean the study of matter, energy, and their interactions. This is the science championed by many great scientists including Sir Isaac Newton (discovered gravity), Marie Curie (researched radiation), Albert Einstein (E=mc^2), and (most recently) Dr. Katie Bouman (led the team that created the first imaged a black hole). All of these great scientists and their work will be talked about in this class. Not only will we talk their work we're going to discover some of it for ourselves. Obviously we can't take a picture of a black hole, but there are plenty of physical science topics and discoveries that we can do in our lab. Click below to see our full list of topics hat will be discussed throughout the year.
